THINGS TO SEE
AND DO

Platelayers Cottages are situated along a forest drive in the heart of the North York Moors National park in the valley below the village of Levisham. The North York Moors Railway line runs parallel with the forest drive, so for enthusiasts, there is no better location to enjoy the site and sound of the steam trains.

The nearest pub is ‘The Horseshoe Inn’ and is only a couple of miles up the road in the village, where you will find a great selection of Beers, lagers, wines and spirits, The pub is also renowned for its excellent bar meals and restaurant food.

If hiking is your thing, there are an abundance of forest and moorland walks. Grab an OS map of the area and plan a trek, you will be spoilt for choice when you see how many paths and bridelways there is winding through the trunning countryside!

For the more energetic, mountian biking is a huge sports in these parts… there’s 100’s of trails on the doorstep, not to mention the incredible world-class mountain bike trails throughout Dalby Forest.

Visit the seaside towns or Whitby, Robin Hoods Bay, Staithes and Scarborough. Stroll around market towns such as Pickering, Malton and Helmsley.

A short drive from the cottages is the Town of Pickering with its market each Monday. Pickering is the terminus for the NYMR where steam trains leave for return trips to Whitby.

We are blessed in our part of North Yorkshire with so many things to do and places to visit.
